WS001 “Hands-on” complex clinical case scenarios - Bariatric Safe Patient Handling and Mobility Living Laboratory
Join us for this all-new and unique opportunity to learn from colleagues and further enhance your knowledge base in the BSPHM field. The BSPHMLL is an innovative engagement and knowledge-building activity specifically developed to promote an interdisciplinary approach to BSPHM. Participants collaborate together to carry out various patient handling tasks designed to provoke critical thinking. The BSPHMLL consists of case study discussions and clinical case scenarios with a hands-on demonstration of various mobility tasks with simulated plus-size patients. Participants will be tasked to join an interdisciplinary care team to develop BSPHM evidence-based strategies to accomplish various mobility tasks using appropriate safe patient handling practices.
Scenarios will include issues pertaining to pressure injury prevention and treatment, fall prevention and recovery, critical care concerns, and emergency evacuation skills and planning, all through the eyes of safe, equitable patient handling. Lunch Is not included.

WS002 Bariatric Safe Patient Handling and Simulation Challenge
Back by Popular Demand!
Plan to attend the Bariatric Safe Patient Handling and Mobility Simulation Challenge (BSPHMSC) where a team of experts will guide you through this innovative employee engagement and knowledge-building activity specifically developed for BSPHM program promotion. Teams of participants collaborate to carry out various patient handling tasks designed to provoke critical thinking. Each participant will be part of a 4-6-member team. You can join as a team or sign up as an individual and you will be assigned to a team The BSPHMSC will consist of case study discussions and clinical case scenarios with a hands-on demonstration of various mobility tasks with simulated plus-size patients; as such, understanding and competency in using BSPHM practices are fundamental. Each team must develop BSPHM evidence-based strategies to accomplish various mobility tasks using appropriate safe patient handling practices. Two evaluators with safe patient handling expertise will assess elements within each mobility task/clinical scenario.
After each task, a debriefing session will be held with the evaluators to discuss criteria of assessment and performance of the team related to demonstrated strengths and areas for improvement. In addition, the debriefing will also include comments from the simulated patient. The simulated patient offers additional input to enhance overall team understanding of BSPHM practices from the patient's perspective in real time. Lunch Is not included.

WS003 Obesity And The Skin
The skin, being the largest organ of the body, is especially sensitive to changes associated with excess adiposity. This session presents specific and practical idea such as: an overview of lower leg pathology, (including MLL, lymphedema, lipedema), skin fold management, incontinence associated dermatitis, and pressure injuries as these are some of commonly occurring skin challenges associated with patients who have Adiposity Based Chronic Disease. This case-based presentation explores these more common skin injuries as well as size-specific prevention, assessment and treatment modalities that promote patient care and prevent worker injury.
What is the rate of skin injury among your plus-size patients? Are some types of injuries particularly baffling? What is the incidence of worker fatigue and injury when providing skin assessment, prevention of treatment?
Join Susan Gallagher PhD RN and a panel of experts to explore a practical approach to Obesity and the Skin!
